FIFA has suspended Lionel Messi for 4 matches due to an incident that occurred during the match between Argentina and Chile on March 23 2017 as part of the qualifying competition for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

The Barcelona and Argentina star was found guilty of abusing an assistant referee during the match.

In addition to the ban, Messi was fined CHF 10,000 swiss franc.

Speaking about the ban, Messi said he was simply talking to the air.

His words: “My comments were never directed at the first assistant, they were comments made to the air.”
