Former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Peter Cech has made a switch in profession from football top Ice Hockey. This was revealed by both he and Chelsea on Twitter yesterday after he signed for English Ice Hockey side Guildford Phoenix as he bid to begin a career in the sport ‘he had always loved’.

The 37-year old Chelsea Technical and Performance Adviser who played 443 Premier League games for the two London superpowers, hung up his gloves last season after 20 years as a professional footballer.

The Czech-born international revealed that even though he played football, he had always had a passion for Hockey right from childhood. The sport is immensely popular in the Czech Republic with the men’s and women’s national teams ranked fifth and eighth respectively, according to the International Ice Hockey Federation.

Peter Cech will be the third- choice keeper for Phoenix as he seeks to gain match experience.
