The spokesperson for the president, Garba Shehu told pyramid radio that Nigerians may likely face serious shortage of grains if care is not taken.
He stated on behalf of the president that, Nigeria being the largest producer of cereals and grains meets the huge demand for grains in the global market as a result, there is a reckless export of our foods to other countries and this needs to be curtailed else, Nigerians will suffer hunger in the nearest future.
Mr. Shehu said the ministry of agriculture has advised the president to call the attention of Nigerians to the issue, which if not promptly addressed may be devastating come January next year.
He also explained that the president has no intentions of tampering with the free market which Nigeria is enjoying right now but is only calling the exporters to their moral duty to make their produce available to Nigerians within our borders.
