Dutch club Fortuna Sittard has suspended former Nigeria captain Sunday Oliseh due to what they perceived to be his frosty relationship with players, staff and management of the club.
Oliseh fell out with the owner of the club Isitan Gün, who was unhappy with his behavior and has witnessed a late downturn in results as they have lost four matches on the stretch.
According to a press release by the club, it read: ”Several attempts by the club to encourage a change in the coach’s behaviour have unfortunately not worked, resulting in an unworkable situation,
“The board of Fortuna Sittard emphasizes that the decision to suspend Sunday Oliseh is not motivated by the current sporting performance.
“The coach’s unacceptable actions have made cooperation between many people within the organization impossible – from players to employees.
“Fortuna Sittard regrets the decision, but states that the club interest goes above all else.”
However, Oliseh on his part sighted his refusal to participate in illegal activities by the club, as the reason for his suspension. He stated this on his twitter account yesterday.
”Due to my refusal to participate in Illegal activities at Fortuna sittard & violate the Law, I have been Suspended from my duties as Coach by the Foreign Owners of Fortuna.
”Unfortunate for the lovely fans, my players & our hard fought phenomenal positioning for Promotion.”
Oliseh was appointed coach of Fortuna Sittard in December 2016 and has since qualified the club for the playoffs.
