A gang of four men are standing trial for the kidnap of a Lagos Monarch. The monarch, Goriola Oseni, is the traditional ruler of Iba Town.
The case which is pending before justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Lagos State High Court, Igbosere, came up yesterday.
The four accused persons are: Duba Furejo, Ododowo Isaiah, Reuben Anthony and Yerin Fresh. They were first arraigned on the 24th of October.
The Monarch who was called as first prosecution witness (PW1) told the honourable court that the four accused persons came into his palace at about 8:00pm on July 16th, and met him in boxers watching the TV.
He inquired what they wanted from him at the same his queens came into the palace, but they fled with him after spraying bullets in the air which killed his security guard and a motorcyclist in the process.
He told the court that he was taken to an unknown camp and kept for 3 weeks until his family was able to pay a negotiated sum as ransom.
The monarch testified that the kidnappers asked for N500 million which his family negotiated to N40 million, but they were not able to raise the agreed sum, and ended up paying N15.1 million to the kidnappers before they let him go.
The accused persons have been charged with conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, robbery, armed robbery, stealing, and kidnapping.
The son of the monarch, Kazeem also testified as PW2.
The case was adjourned till 18th November, for continuation of trial for the prosecution to call more witnesses.
