Nigeria’s U-20 women team fell 1-0 to Germany in their opening Group C game at the 2018 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France yesterday.

German Stefanie Sanders broke the deadlock in the 70th minute after they had knocked at the door of the Nigerian defence for much of the game.

The Falconets had Chiamaka Nnadozie to thank for though as she was outstanding during the match with her saves (7).

However, the young girls could have equalized shortly after going down by a goal but Anam Imo was denied by the upright. She also came close to drawing level with a header in the final seconds of the game but her attempt was saved by Fischer.

They will next face Haiti on the 9th of August.

This is the third defeat at the hand of Germany at this level with the first defeat coming in the 2010 finals while the second defeat was at the 2014 final.
