Remember the movie, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? Sadly, the lead actor who played Willy Wonka, Gene Wilder, died yesterday at the age of 83.
Wilder starred in many other iconic Hollywood movies like Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Stir Crazy and many more was reported to have died yesterday in his Connecticut home.
It was confirmed by his nephew that he has been battling Alzheimer’s for 3 years now and passed on after several complications. His nephew, Jordan Walker-Pearlman in a statement said:
“It is with indescribable sadness and blues, but with spiritual gratitude for the life lived that I announce the passing of husband, parent, and universal artist Gene Wilder,”… “It is almost unbearable for us to contemplate our life without him.”
He got his first start on the Broadway stage all the way back in 1961 when he starred in Roots. In 1963, he caught the attention of Mel Brooks when he performed in Brecht’s Mother Courage. Mel helped him move to limelight. Over the course of his career, the comic actor was nominated for two Oscars.
We like to think Gene Wilder lived and expressed a fulfilling life through his roles and we’re sending strength and love to his family. RIP Gene.
