Liberia president and former Ballon D’Or winner George Weah showed up at his country’s international friendly against Nigeria on Tuesday.
Liberia arranged the friendly to retire their number 14 shirt, worn by Weah at his playing peak.
The 51-year old, who recently was elected President of Liberia, is the first African footballer to win FIFA World Player of the Year award.
Nigeria won the game 2-1 with goals from Henry Onyekuru and Simy Nwankwo giving the Super Eagles a 2-0 goal lead while Kpah Sherman converted from the penalty spot after Semi Ajayi was adjudged to have handled the ball in the 18-yard box.
Weah was substituted in the 79th minute to a loud ovation from the crowd.
