Although Ghanaians and Nigerians are always at each other’s necks, there are so many things we have in common. One of them is the acceptance of Ghanaian actors and actresses into the Nigerian movie industry tagged Nollywood. These celebrities found a way into the Nigerian movie industry and since then, they have stayed and continued amassing popularity and wealth. Below are some Ghanaian celebrities taking Nollywood and Nigeria as a whole by storm:

Juliet Ibrahim

You would think Juliet Ibrahim is a Nigerian considering the frequency at which she appears in Nigerian movies. Juliet’s first Nollywood film was Yankee Boys and she has featured in more than 50 films afterwards. Her 2nd movie ‘Shattered Romance’ which paraded Nigerian and Ghanaian actors, launched amidst fanfare in Accra, Ghana on the 5th of December 2014.

John Dumelo

John Dumelo is a Ghanaian actor. He was nominated for categories Most Promising Actor and Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 6th and 7th Africa Movie Academy Awards respectively.

Nadia Buari

Delectable actress, Nadia Buari moved from Ghanaian films to Nollywood films around the year 2008. Her breakthrough role in Nollywood was in the film Beyonce & Rihanna as Beyonce alongside Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde who played Rihanna. The film became very popular to both Ghanaian and Nigerian audience.

Jackie Appiah

Jackie Appiah

Jackie Aygemang Appiah is a Canadian-born Ghanaian actress known for her works as an actress and she has received several awards and nominations including Best actress in a leading role at the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) 2010 and best actress in a supporting role at AMAA 2007. Appiah was already known to Nollywood through her many successful Ghanaian films including Beyonce, the President’s Daughter, Princess Tyra, Passion of the Soul, Pretty Queen, the Prince’s Bride, the King Is Mine and the Perfect Picture.

Majid Michel

Majid Michel is a Ghanaian actor. He received nominations for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2017. He eventually won the award in 2012 after three previous consecutive nominations. He is a known face in Nollywood.

Joselyn Dumas

Joselyn Dumas

Dumas was a practising paralegal until she relocated to Ghana to follow her dreams of becoming a TV personality. She made her debut on TV as the host of ‘Charter House’s Rhythms”, an entertainment show which saw her interview many celebrities, Lekki Wives (Season2), Perfect Picture among other movies are what landed her career in Nollywood movies.

Yvonne Nelson

Yvonne Nelson

Her first lead role was the title character in the movie Princess Tyra. She shot about five more movies and then went to Nigeria to shoot her first collaboration with Genevieve Nnaji in 2007, which launched her career in Nollywood. Since then, she has become a household name in the movie industry. Some of the Nollywood movies she has featured in House of Gold with several others.
