Karim Benzema’s comments which went viral assuring that he was a Formula One car and that Olivier Giroud was just a go-kart driver have been responded to by the Chelsea striker. “I’m a go-kart, but I’m a world champion.” “People say you cannot compare a Formula One car with a go-kart and the only thing I can say on the matter is that I’m a world champion, so that isn’t bad for a go-kart.” Olivier Giroud told “Befoot”.
The Real Madrid player tried to backtrack afterward: “On Giroud, I simply said the truth. But nobody remembers what I said about his contribution to the national team, simply we remember that I said I was an F1 car and he a go-kart… But it’s the truth, that is what I think.”
Benzema has not played for the National team since 2015, due to him being involved in an alleged blackmail sextape plot involving former teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
Karim Benzema was a popular player among France fans and after Giroud took over his role as No1 forward, he was targeted by abuse from supporters. Giroud told Le Parisien in 2016: “I immediately realized that the people who booed me were not anti-Giroud, but pro-Benzema. “It could not be otherwise. I came from a great season with Arsenal. It was just disappointing. “Yes, it annoyed me. I was not even remotely responsible for this story and I did not understand the kind of hatred that developed against me.”
