Two days after a Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti ordered that Governor Fayose’s account, which was frozen on the instructions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, should be unblocked by the bank, the controversial governor was reported to have proceeded to the Zenith Bank branch in Ado Ekiti on Thursday to withdraw from the said bank account which has been unfrozen.
The report states that Justice Taiwo Taiwo, the presiding judge in the case, said Mr. Fayose enjoys absolute immunity from prosecution and no punitive measures could be taken against him.
Sometime in June 2016, governor Fayose’s account was frozen by the EFCC on allegations that he took money from a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, who is currently being prosecuted over firearms purchase fraud.
It was also reported that, on Thursday afternoon, the governor’s media assistant, Lere Olayinka, circulated images showing that Mr. Fayose had been to the bank to withdraw some amount of money from his unfrozen accounts.
This was obviously done to spite his prosecutors, who had said it would appeal against the decision of the honourable court.
