Icelandic Chelsea legend, Eidur GUDJOHNSEN has slammed English midfielder Ross Barkley over his penalty miss in Chelsea’s 0-1 loss to Valencia.
Chelsea was in control of the match but fell to an unfortunate goal late in the second half. However, there was a lifeline for the Blues to come back into the game as VAR awarded Chelsea a penalty which Barkley blasted over.
Before Barkely stepped up, there was a little argument between he and Chelsea’s regular spot-kick takers Jorginho and Willian over who to take the penalty.
This did not go down well with Chelsea legend Eidur Gudjohnsen who described Barkley’s behaviour as being “disrespectful” towards his team-mates.
Gudjohnsen said during match analysis on BT Sport: “It’s almost disrespectful to your team-mates to do something like what Ross Barkley did this evening,”
“I’m pretty sure it’s clear who is the penalty taker before the game.”
“Just to create all the fuss, the tension between your team-mates and yourself and then go on to miss the penalty, you just put yourself under so much more pressure than actually just taking a penalty.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s coach Frank Lampard has come out to insist that Barkley was the official penalty taker for the club when on the pitch but when not on the pitch, it was between Willian or Jorginho.
Chelsea now shifts focus to this weekend encounter against league leaders Liverpool at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
