World number one Roger Federer got his Halle Open adventure to a quick start as he defeated Slovenia’s Aljaz Bedene 6-3 6-4 in the first round to extend his unbeaten run on grass to 17 matches.
The Swiss dropped only eight points on his serve as he seeks to win a record 10th title in Halle.
The 36-year old’s most recent defeat on grass came against German Tommy Haas at the Stuttgart Open in June 2017.
Federer’s next opponent is Frenchman Benoit Paire in the second round by 9am Thursday.
