Everybody wants to be happy, but not everybody gets to be happy. There is no single formula for being happy, but having studied people who are relatively happy, there are certain activities they engage in or stay away from that can facilitate that feeling. Here are the ones you have to avoid to be happy:

Mind other people’s business

You should just forget about what others are doing. Stop looking at where they are and what they have. Nobody is doing better than you because nobody can do better than you.  You are walking your own path. Sometimes the reason you struggle with insecurity is that you compare our behind-the-scenes circumstances with everyone else’s public highlight reel. So focus on yourself and get the best for yourself.

Seek validation from friends

You cannot do things without asking for comments from your friends. Your self worth and values heavily rely on them. If they do not give you the validation, you become sad and dejected. In its intense level, you become depressed just because you do not get your desired validation. While some people depend on friends for this validation, others rely on social media. You are the only one that can give yourself the best validation!

Rely on external events for happiness

Unhappiness lies in that gap between what you have now and what you think you need.  But the truth is, you don’t need to acquire anything more to be content with what you already have. You don’t need anyone else’s permission to be happy.  Your life is magnificent not because someone says it is, or because you have acquired something new, but because you choose to see it as such.  Don’t let your happiness be held hostage.  It is always yours to choose, to live and experience.

Hold on to resentment

If someone annoys you, you should forgive the person as soon as possible if you really want to be happy. Resentment will eat your soul to the extent that you are always sad and jealous whenever the person you resent is doing better than you. Just free your soul by letting go!

Resist the truth

Some people find it very hard to face the truth. As such, they always deny it. Whether you deny it or not, one day the truth will trail you, block your way and you will be forced to face it. It is advisable you accept, embrace the truth.

Spend time in negative environments

You can’t make positive choices for the rest of your life without an environment that makes those choices easy, natural, and enjoyable.  So protect your spirit and potential from contamination by limiting your time with negative people and the environments they inhabit.
