It’s been a rough start to life in London for Arsenals record signing. Unai Emery brought Pepe in in the summer of 2019 from Lille after a stellar season for a whopping £72 million pounds.
However, things haven’t gone as planned since his arrival as the Ivorian has looked short of confidence and has been taking his time to adjust to premier league football, only registering a single goal which came from the penalty spot.
Although Pepe hadn’t been in his usual form, Unai selected to bring him on 2-1 down against an inferior Vitoria SC in Thursday nights Europa League fixture.
The Ivorian winger had come on as a 74th-minute substitute, replacing Alexandre Lacazette, and sparked a lacklustre Arsenal into life with two sensational free-kicks in the 80th and 92nd minutes to snatch a 3-2 win.
In Emery’s post match conference he said, “Every new player usually needs time for adaptation,”. “Pepe is a very good player and we believe in him totally.”
Pepe and everyone connected to Arsenal will he hoping he has turned the corner and top performances are in the way.
