Eden Hazard helped his Chelsea side to victory as he scored two goals to consolidate their lead at the top of the EPL. Hazard gave Chelsea a 10th-minute lead when his shot deflected off Manchester City’s captain Vincent Kompany past keeper Willy Caballero.
Later in the game, the Blues were awarded a penalty after Fernandinho brought down Pedro in the box. Hazard stepped forward to take the spot kick but it was saved by Cabellero. Regardless, the rebound fell kindly to Hazard who didn’t hesitate to score in the 35th minute.
In between, Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois gifted Sergio Aguero an equaliser in the 26th minutes after Courtois’s clearance to David Silva fell to the Manchester city striker.
Hazard was named the man of the match.
This Chelsea victory means that they now have 72 points while Manchester City has 58 points.
An excited Antonio Conte said: “My look is tired because I feel like I played it tonight with my players. I suffered with them. “But we must be pleased because we beat a strong team – the best team in the league. I think they have a great coach – the best in the world. To win this type of game at this time of the season is great.”
For Pep Guardiola, he appreciated his players for their performance. He said: “It is an honour to have the amazing players I have. We came here to Stamford Bridge and play the way we have, with a huge personality. I’m a lucky guy to manage these guys.”
