Sophie Zinga is a Senegalese fashion brand founded by Sophie Nzinga Sy while attending Parsons Design School in New York. Sophie Zinga designs for cosmopolitan, elegant and sophisticated women. Each collection blends the art and culture of different countries and is made using the finest materials and fabrics. With the Ethical Fashion Initiative, Sophie Zinga received mentoring from fashion industry professionals (Simonetta Gianfelici, the Vogue Italia team and the Ethical Fashion Initiative team) and participated in Vogue Talents during Milan Fashion Week. She has applied the many skills she learned there to create her own eponymous fashion brand, Sopie Zinga.
Drawing on her diverse cultural background and love of nature, her brand is aimed at the modern day woman, and features contemporary geometric silhouettes with pops of colour and floral patterns.
Senegalese based fashion brand Sophie Zinga was one of the many brands to display at the 2016 Lagos Fashion and Design Week back in October.
The Spring/Summer 2017 collection is titled ‘Hibiscus’.
For the collection, the label’s creative director was inspired by the hibiscus flower and the “socio/economic impact it has had in her home country in Senegal as well as in countries in the Carribean (Sorrel)”. Hibiscus is widely referenced in the collection in terms of its vivid colors and its texture.
The collection features various fabrics including orange tie-dye traditional fabric, batik crinkled silk chiffon, organza and satin. With lots of evening wear from Hibiscus, Sophie Zinga is one brand to consider for that special outing.
