The hideouts of some miscreants and criminals who disguise themselves as beggars to perpetuate heinous crimes were raided in Abuja.
The said raid was carried out by the Abuja Environment Protection Board, (AEPB) and the Task Team on Environment (TTE) somewhere in Wuse Zone 4.
The Director of the AEPB, Mr. Olanipekun in a news conference on tuesday stated that, different types of weapons were retrieved from the beggars, and those arrested have been handed over to the police for investigation and further necessary actions.
It is prohibited in the FCT to engage in begging and scavenging. Those found wanting are usually made to face the music.
Olanipekun said during the news conference that, there was a rise in reports of stolen manhole covers, and all fingers pointed to scavengers, which led the FCT administration to prohibit their activities in the state.
He further counseled residents to provide information to the security operatives whenever they notice suspicious movements and assured the general public that, the AEPB and the TTE would continue to work hand-in-hand to clear, prosecute and bring all such criminal activities to an end.
