Last Sunday the 25th of June is one we will not soon forget. In a lovely little hide away in the heart of VI was the apartment turned gallery (16by16) which was the venue for the heart melting and inspirational event.
Titilope Williams nee Sonuga is a truly gifted spoken word poet and in this cosy room with a view (9 stories up with all windows facing the lagoon) the 3-part “Open” series launched. With celebrity guests and fans of Titilope, the sold out event began.
Starting off with a heartfelt message to the audience, Titilope was backed up by really talented young individuals.
This fun and funky three-piece band jammed neo soul, afro funk and jazzesque music with Nigerian Idol finalist and sensational vocalist, Naomi Mac, Ayodele David on bass guitar, Afolabi Adekoima on the drums, Obinna Nwere on the keyboard, and there was even a feature set with the guitar maestro himself Femi Leye.
Titilope’s performance was truly powerful, funny at the right times, relatable when needed and even caused us to reach for our tissues on more than one occasion.
She has great stage presence and we all loved when she became backup singer to Naomi on a few of the songs she penned.
So now is your chance to catch “Open,” as it is a 3-part performance series. Look up @titilope on Instagram and don’t miss out on the upcoming shows; July 16 in Yaba, and then the grand finale on July 30.
