Real Madrid has been suplexed out of the Champions league in emphatic fashion. Ajax’s young killers showed no mercy and put 4 past Madrid at the Bernabeu and truth be told, it probably should’ve been more, as Ajax played some football that would’ve put a smile on the face of the Late, Great Johan Cruyff, cutting through Madrid like a knife through butter on numerous occasions.

Dusan Tadic, remember him? Former Southampton talisman played the game of his career, putting up a performance at the Bernabeu on par with when Ronaldinho visited in 05 and Messi in 2011. The Serb delivered 2 assists, one after sending Casemiro to the shops after a pirouette Zidane himself would’ve been proud of and a goal placed right in the top corner leaving Thibaut Courtois with no chance.

Rising stars De Ligt and latest Barcelona signing Frenkie de Jong also balled out pleasantly.

Could Ajax be returning to its glory days? This is a club with 4 Champions League trophies in their cabinet. Although, this is their first time in the quarter final since the 2002/2003 season.

What next for Madrid though? Back to back Clásico defeats one of which knocking them out of the Copa Del Rey, 23 points behind Barcelona in La Liga and now out of the Champions League in the Round of 16 in embarrassing fashion. If history has taught us anything, Solari seat is piping hot right now and if the plug was pulled on his tenure right at the full time whistle, no one would’ve been surprised. When you consider the fact that Solari blew the Spain job in the summer for the Madrid gig, being unemployed in under a season must leave him re-evaluating his decision making skills.

With the holders out, and this already feeling like one of the most open Champions Leagues in recent history, who are you backing to be this year’s European Champions?
