Just yesterday, following the representations by the majority leader of the House of Representatives Mr. Gbajabiamila, there was high hopes that the senate will approve president Muhammadu Buhari’s request to borrow $29.9 billion for infrastructural development.
The senate leader, Ali Ndume had also asked the senate to approve the loan request of the president.
The body of the Peoples Democratic Party, as well as Femi Falana, lawyer and human rights activist, persuaded the senate to reject the proposal.
Falana stated that, granting the loan would mortgage future generations of Nigeria. However, reports reaching us states that, President Buhari’s request came before the senate on Tuesday for consideration. The senators rejected the request in its entirety.
“NAY!!!” was the resounding answer of the house when the senate president, Bukola Saraki put the request to a voice vote twice.
