The colorful collection from emerging Nigerian Menswear Fashion Brand Ifi Alexander and this one has been titled ‘Tears’
The brief we received on the Pre Fall 2017 collection reads: “Real men don’t cry. Well that’s what we were told as little boys. But over years gone by, I’ve cried over painful goodbyes; I’ve laughed so hard that my sides hurt and tears ran down my cheeks unabashedly. I have learnt that tears do not reflect weakness but on the contrary strength and most often that we are still flesh and bones after all. And it is okay to cry sometimes.”
Inspired from British embroider “broiderybitch” this collection depicts the delicate balance between vulnerability, expression and strength. Broidery Bitch – under the direction of James Kiernan – is focused on the creation of intricate, beautiful and eye-catching embroidery and artwork. Its aims are to develop new and thought provoking designs through the use of embroidery and beading.
The work on display here merges the traditional depiction of religious iconography with the contemporary use of the term ‘Icon’ using the mediums of denim, embroidery, beading, and photography.
