The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Edo state, has been urged by the Executive Director of the Center for Good Governance (CGG) ,Mr. Clement Osahon, to maintain the integrity of the just concluded governorship election by securing all electoral materials used druing the election which held on September 28, 2016.

Osahon stated that he had been reliably informed that, one of the parties to the last election has been threatening INEC workers at the local governments, promising to destroy ballot papers used at the election in order to strengthen its proposed case at the electoral tribunal. He also stated that bribery attempts have been made by some politicians to entice INEC officials to either release used  and unused ballot papers or help them to destroy the ballot papers.

The CGG director went ahead to pose a question in his statement to INEC; he asked, ‘If this party actually won the election as its candidate claims, why will their leaders be planning to destroy ballot papers, ahead of filing their case at the tribunal?’
