Athleisure. Streetwear. Feminine. Urban. It might sound like a bit of an oxymoron but it’s an exciting, new-ish micro-trend about to make a big impact on the Nigerian scene. Taking a cue from cult brands like Supreme, Off-White and Fear of God – brands like Sanusi Lagos, POP Caven, Lagos Laid Bac and Literati Clothing, are introducing pieces with a feminine bend and a strong African flavour, and show us how well this trend is set to take off in 2017.
The chic-est styling takes on this trend marry super feminine motifs like sheer details and bold colour, with ultra athletic-inspired pieces. This could mean a sports jersey dress paired with sexy sandals, a girly-girl dress with sneakers or a super sexy onesie paired with a bomber jacket.
For natural tomboys and androgyny-inclined fashionistas its a chance to juxtapose these two opposites without looking ridiculous, and for the rest of us these unexpected pairings make for a fresh and approachable take on the core streetwear look, without trying too hard.
As usual, Latasha gives us a totally fresh vibe with FLAWLESS and super feminine hair and makeup combined with unabashedly streetwear looks. The juxtaposition from a purely beauty perspective is genius.
Bomber jackets aren’t just for track meets anymore. Make like Fisayo Longe of Mirror Me and perfect the track chic look with an uber sexy onesie and an effortless messy bun.
This all white ensemble could be equal parts dainty and sexy, but it gets an extra dose of sporty chic from the white trainers. We adore this look.
Denim cutoffs, a spandex croptop and sneakers may seem like leisure wear fodder, but subtle fashion details like the neon colorway of the sneakers and the artfully distressed denim make for an unexpectedly chic daytime ensemble.
To make a tomboy-chic look more ladylike, throw on a jersey dress (or your boyfriend’s jersey even) and pair with sexy strappy heels.
Combine monochrome print with a feminine silhouette and sneakers for a stylish yet functional look
We love this versatile mix of bold color and athleisure inspired pants.
