Is 2017 popping off with hot singles yet or are we still waiting for the first hit of the year? For now, the late releases of 2016 will have to suffice while 2017 singles get into our systems. At the moment, here are 5 jams that are holding it down.

5.  Yung L- This Year

Starting off 2017 with safe presentation, Yung L’s This Year is a feel good piece with a soft vibe, and a sing along type of hook. The theme of the single is the goals and dreams that we all need to achieve to win the year. The vibe is easy to ride and the lyrical expressions are relatable.

4- Shatta Wale- Real Badman

The energy on this tune is as a result of the heavy instrumental, and Shatta’s boisterous delivery. If we didn’t all know him as a champion from Ghana, this single would have passed for a purely Jamaican piece. Of course this is because it is Shatta’s version of Death Warrant Riddim, already presented by the likes of Tommy Lee Sparks and Ryme Minista.

3. Harry Songz Ft Timaya- Samankwe

Harry Song went audio hybrid on this one, fusing afro pop with a fine calypso feel. The beat comes fresh in a very Caribbean vibe while Harry and Timaya drop the usual kind of verses about girls and the sensations they bring.

2. Wizkid- Daddy Yo

Here comes Wizkid again with unsophisticated lyrics and one liners….but it is totally banging. This single charged into the new year with more force than fans expected. At first it doesn’t sound like a monster hit, but the tune grows on you as Efya’s hook and that particularly repeated line (Daddy Yo make me dance) swings in and out. It’s a contagious vibe banging through January’s weeks.

1. Runtown- Mad Over You

The one song that just popped into Billboard chart at number 38, and one of those ‘’everybody loves it’’ type of jam. The sweet element of this song is really not difficult to identify. Its simply Del B’s well laced beats, and Runtown’s melody. The vocals come nicely structured that is makes some expressions stick. ( I hope say she sabi cook Waache). Undisputedly the hottest song of the week.

Did we leave out any single that you are feeling? Which one?
