Jared Leto is set to star in a standalone joker movie. The actor, who played the Batman super-villain in 2016’s Suicide Squad, will reportedly star in and executive produce the new standalone film.
According to reports, Leto will lead the new Joker film from Warner Bros, which is currently untitled. The studios are apparently looking to expand on Suicide Squad, with the possibility for further future instalments.
Jared Leto’s own Joker spin-off will be a separate endeavour to Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese’s Joker origin movie, which is set to depict the villain as a stand-up comic. Joaquin Phoenix is reportedly slated for the lead role.
Further details about Leto’s Joker film remain unconfirmed, with no director, producer, or scriptwriter currently attached to the project. With the previously announced Suicide Squad sequel rumoured for production sometime in 2019, it is also unclear exactly when filming would begin.
