Instead of taking a knee, the Carters took a seat. JAY-Z and Beyoncé remained seated during Demi Lovato’s performance of the national anthem prior to Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium. The superstar couple refused to stand with daughter Blue Ivy as Demi Lovato sang the national anthem.

Following the announcement of his partnership with the NFL last year that focused on consulting on the Super Bowl halftime show and helping with the league’s social initiative efforts, JAY-Z addressed Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest, saying he wasn’t opposed to the gesture, but wanted to move towards “the next phase.”
In usual fashion people on social media weighed in.
