Jay-Z and Will Smith are teaming up and staking out their territory in the camping industry. Jay and Will have invested in Hipcamp that is an app that calls itself “the Airbnb of camping.” The premise is that it offers users the ability to rent grounds and outdoor space to campers.Apparently, the company has already raked in $25 million in fundraising efforts and Jay has added to the fund with his Marcy Venture Partners while Will has done the same with his Dreamers VC fund.
Marcy Venture Partners is co-founded by Shawn Carter himself, Jay Brown, and Larry Marcus. “Hipcamp is on the forefront of culture, creating meaningful and joyful experiences with the outdoors,” said Marcus. “While mobile devices and technology enables their marketplace of unique camping sites, Hipcamp experiences provide a welcome respite from those very devices. Their ethos of creating an inclusive community that values the environment, preservation, and the great outdoors makes them an ideal partner to our firm. We are thrilled to be partnered with Alyssa and the team to help grow their business.”
Aside from Jay’s ventures with Will Smith, he recently took on quite an important role with the NFL since creating an “entertainment and social justice partnership” that means ROC Nation will be co-producer of the Super Bowl halftime show.
