Jodie Whittaker has confirmed in a new interview that she will be returning to play Doctor Who next year.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Whittaker, who had previously declined to comment about returning to the show, confirmed she would be returning for series 12 of the long-running BBC sci-fi show next year.
Whittaker said: “I really can’t wait to step back in and get to work again…it’s such an incredible role. It’s been an extraordinary journey so far and I’m not quite ready to hand it over yet.”
Whittaker’s first run as The Doctor will end this weekend with the series conclusion ‘The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos.”
Recently, the show sparked headlines when the BBC confirmed that there would be no Doctor Who Christmas special this year, but a New Year one instead. The show will air on New Year’s Day at 7pm for a one-hour special.
It’s not yet been confirmed if Whittaker’s co-stars from the series – Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill – will return for series 12.
