The Speaker of the House, Kano State House of Assembly, Mr. Kabiru Rurum, on Wednesday, expressed concern over the low number of beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s Empowerment Programme, N-power, selected from the state.
He said this while briefing journalists on the issue in Kano.
The Speaker said that the House had written a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, appealing to them to look into the selection process again.
“Despite the fact that Kano is the most populous state in the country, available data has shown that over 20,000 youths from the state applied for the scheme, yet only 4,966 were selected,” Mr. Rurum said.
The speaker had stated that other states which were not as populated as Kano State were allocated more slots that Kano state which he said was unfair and unjust.
“Such selection process is against the spirit of federal character, and we are not satisfied with the selection method,” Mr. Rurum said.
He wen ahead to stress that, the State Assembly would not relent in its efforts to ensure that the state is dealt with fairly on this issue.
