A statement released on Monday, 10th October, to newsmen, by the Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Police Command, Mr. Salisu Agaisa, revealed that all forms of religious processions, rallies and unlawful assembly has been banned by the state command.

It read in part, ‘any person(s) caught violating this order will be arrested and prosecuted.’

Agaisa stated that:’the command wishes to inform the general public that it has banned all forms of processions, rallies, gatherings and unlawful assemblies under any guise throughout the state.

We are calling on parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and prevent them from taking part in such acts, as they could easily be influenced by unscrupulous elements to threaten the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.’

Premium Times reports that the ban occurs despite several court rulings that allow peaceful demonstrations and rallies.
