First it was Gucci now it’s Katy Perry. Katy Perry is now the latest artist to be accused of promoting blackface. The singer’s eponymous brand faces criticism over two styles of shoes that some say bare similarities to the racist imagery.


Katy Perry’s clothing brand has come under fire for their Ora Face Block Heel and Rue Face Slip-On Loafers. The shoes come in black and beige and both styles include protruding eyes, nose and full red lips, features that have similarities to ‘Blackface’.The sandal and the loafer were temporarily available on the Dillard’s website. The images and descriptions of the shoes were replaced with the message, “This item is not available for internet purchase.

Perry now joins the ranks of companies like Moncler and Gucci who have been cited for their use of blackface as seasonal fashion.
