Netflix has finally confirmed that Kevin Spacey‘s character in House of Cards has been killed off.
The streaming giant dropped its latest trailer for the sixth and final season of the cult series. In it, Robin Wright – who plays newly-elected President Claire Underwood – stands over her husband’s grave.
“I’ll tell you this… Francis,” she says. “When they bury me, it won’t be in my backyard. And when they pay their respects, they’ll have to wait in line.”

The camera then zooms out to reveal Kevin Spacey’s character has been buried next to his father, Calvin Underwood.
The moment is significant because the pair loathed each other. In a previous episode, the 46th president even urinates on his father’s headstone.
Late last year, Netflix severed ties with Spacey after a number of men came forward to accuse the Oscar-winning actor of sexual misconduct. One of the accusers, actor Anthony Rapp, claimed Spacey had made a sexual advance when he was just 14 years old.
While writing Spacey out of the script cost Netflix millions of dollars, it might not jar with the show’s storyline. At the end of the fifth season, it is implied Claire isn’t going to give her husband a presidential pardon.
In past episodes, Francis came close to death after being shot and has even complained of chest pains.
The final season is due out on Netflix from Friday, November 2.
