So I was casually scrolling through Instagram when I came across the masterpiece called “LALACE” that AMA Psalmist and Tope Olowoniyan created together, and first of all, I can’t believe that I’m just seeing this, secondly why isn’t everybody talking about this?

So for International Women’s Day, actress and TV presenter Tope Olowoniyan decided to commemorate the special day through a monologue that was written by our very own Chidinma Igbokweuche.

LALACE is about Maimuna Yashmin Danlami, a woman who was able to escape being married off at young age by her father and ended up becoming a successful young woman. Now she’s back to her hometown to prove to her father that women are more than elements of trade.

The monologue highlights the issue of child marriage in the North and encourages young women that they can be whatever they want to be.

Thank you Tope for reminding people about such an important issue on an important day, because yes, I agree that International women’s day is a day to celebrate the achievements of women, but it’s also a day to remember and think about the various struggles that women go through, so that we can all come together and figure out how to find solutions to these struggles.
