Let’s go Kenyan today my dear food lovers. Take a look at 5 of our favorite Kenyan meals (based purely on how they look sha) that will surely blow you away. I’m certain these meals might give you a reason to travel down to Kenya (just like Mark Zuckerberg after his Lagos visit)
Nyama Choma (Roasted Meat)
In Kenya, Nyama Choma is the pride food. The love for this meal is so strong that anyone hosting a party that doesn’t serve Nyama Choma is labelled a bad host. This meal is largely sold nationwide from high-class restaurants to roadside local traders. This meal is eaten with your bare hands and served with very chilled beer.
Sukuma Wiki (Kale/ Collard Greens)
‘Sukuma Wiki’ is a Swahili term meaning ‘week pusher’ or ‘week stretcher’. Kenyans use this meal for sustenance when other food supplies such as meat, fish, pepper have been exhausted, hence the name.
I personally love the look of this stew even without tasting it, because all I see is meat, meat and more meat. Choi, Kenyan stew is not limited to just one kind of meat as you can add beef, pork, chicken, mutton and any type of meat you want in it. Awesome!
Githeri (Red Beans and Corn)
The meal is just what it looks like. Red kidney beans and corn with a few vegetables. If you are searching for weight loss meal, add this to your list. Looks super balanced to me.
Irio is one of the most famous Kenyan foods as it is quite heavy and best eaten when you have a day packed with activities. Irio is made with green peas, potato and corn all mashed up together. This meal is best eaten with Nyama Choma.
