It was a good Italian Grand Prix for Lewis Hamilton as it claimed his 69th career pole position to break the Formula One record previously held by Michael Schumacher.
Hamilton established the record in just 201 races, far fewer than Schumacher’s 308.
The 28-year-old has overtaken Sebastian Vettel’s lead in the driver’s championship after he won the Grand Prix. The Brit sat comfortably in first for the majority of the race and looked to be in peak form.
Mercedes dominated in Italy this year with Valtteri Bottas claiming second ahead of Sebastian Vettel (third) and Daniel Ricciardo (fourth).
