Lip care never used to be the most exciting of beauty categories, with most of us relying on a trusty pot of Carmex or Petroleum Jelly we’ve had at the bottom of our bags for the last five years.
Lately, however, products designed to plump, smooth, soften and nourish our lips have become big business. Credit must be given to the Korean market, which offers an array of beauty options for every body part imaginable, and whose jelly lip masks that recently caused a social media buzz.
Lip scrubs are also enjoying a rebirth, with Dior and MAC both launching new exfoliating options for the month alone. See our pick of the best options to try now:
1. Etude House
One of the biggest Korean beauty brands on the scene, Etude House does an impressive trade in lip masks with its Cherry Lip Gel Patch. Not only does it plump and hydrate, it also tastes like cherry. Date night essential.
Buff lips to perfection with MAC’s new Lip Scrubtious, which comes in five different fruity flavours. Be warned, they’re quite addictive.
3. Concept Eyes
The packaging alone should be enough to make you an instant fan of Korean brand 3 Concept Eyes, and the products are pretty great too. Packed with plant oils, it also gives lips a pretty pink tint as it hydrates.
4. Holika Holika
If you really do have time to set aside for your new lip care regime, turn to Holika Holika’s Golden Monkey Glamour Lip Three-Step Kit. Yes, three steps. First up is a peel, second a gel mask, and third a soothing balm with Manuka honey and royal jelly extract.
Dior’s Backstage Pros collection is already home to one of our favourite tinted balms, Lip Glow, and now includes a “colour-awakening” Lip Sugar Scrub to keep lips ultra-soft. Apply like a balm and rub lips together, or massage in using small circles – the sugar grains will gradually melt away to leave you with perfectly exfoliated lips.
Plump and perfect your pout, Korean-style, with this hyaluronic-acid-packed gel mask from Bioaqua. Apply to dry skin and let the hydrating ingredients sink in for 10 minutes as you read a book or some other silent task – remember you can’t move your mouth.
