Liverpool’s third choice keeper, Alex Manninger has announced his retirement from football.
The club announced via twitter that the former Arsenal shot stopper will retire once his contract ends in June.
The 39-year old Austrian has been third best to Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius for the whole season with no appearance to his name.
“I thought about it couple of months ago and I was keen to decide myself not to wait again for the summer and whether I receive a phone call or not,” he said.
“I did not want to go too far and let my body decide or the phone decide if it does not ring so that is why I came to the decision of calling it quit.”
Manninger who has won 33 caps for Austria, has also played for Juventus in the Serie A.
