London Mayor, Sadiq Khan has said that he is against plans by the management of the English Premier League to return to football in June adding that football should only come back only when it is safe.
The government had recently announced in a road map that sport can restart from June 1 without fans. As a result of the government’s decision, the English Premier League says that football will return on June 12.
However, London Mayor Khan is concerned about the return of football putting too much pressure on the health facilities of the city.
A spokesperson for the Mayor said: “As a Liverpool fan, Sadiq, of course, wants the Premier League to return, but it can only happen when it is safe to do so, and it cannot place any extra burden on the NHS and emergency services.”
To finalise the plans for Project Restart, the premier league is expected to hold a meeting with the Professional Footballers’ Association and the League Managers Association when they get replies from their colleagues on how to start the premier league.
