“Indomie” is an instant noodle brand that is very (very, VERY) popular in Nigerian marketas as it has been accepted by pretty much all Nigerians and sold both raw and cooked in local stores. When it boils down to food, instant noodles are in every home as it is easy to cook, it’s quick and needs no extra effort. But the fact remains that health wise, man cannot live by Indomie alone.
The health benefits of instant noodles should be something to worry about. I mean, why eat a meal that might have zero benefit to one’s health? Instant noodles have been reviewed by various experts and though they all came to different conclusions, almost all of them were negative.
Instant noodles are made up of acid regulators, flavour enhancers, thickeners, humectants, colours, stabilizers, anti-oxidants, emulsifiers, flour treatment agents, preservatives and anti-caking agents which are allowed by Codex Standards (FAO standards)- but the hazard is that all these ingredients are very high in sodium which is linked to diseases like hypertension, kidney failure, heart disease and stroke. It is also very high in carbohydrate which is a principal cause of high blood pressure. Do you really want to continue such unhealthy eating habits!?
Since man cannot live by indomie alone, it’s very important to add vegetables, fish, meat, egg, crayfish, shrimps and any other food component that is highly nutritional. This will help balance the meal and give it more flavour than the regular quick fix. Remember, eating smaller potions is one of the tricks to healthy eating.
