Manchester City have signed French defender Aymeric Laporte who is yet to make a senior cap for his country from Athletic Bilbao for a club record fee of £57m.
The latest signing took Man City`s spending on defenders and a goalkeeper since the end of last season to £215.5m.
The centre-back has played 19 times for France at Under-21 level but yet to make a single appearance for the senior team.
Laporte’s arrival will provide cover for a defence that is plagued with the bad injury record of skipper Vincent Kompany and inconsistency of Eliaquim Mangala.
