Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has undergone a medical at Middlesbrough ahead of a potential move to the Championship club.
The 31-year old travelled from London to the north-east yesterday after agreeing personal terms as he has been a free agent since leaving Tianjin TEDA in the Chinese Super League where he spent the past two seasons.
Mikel chose a move to England over Roma and Wolfsburg as his wife and two young children were based there.
Mikel played more than 350 games for Chelsea during his 11-year stay at Stamford Bridge winning two Premier League titles, three FA Cups, the League Cup, Champions League and Europa League.
