Talk about black excellence, for the first time in history, three black women are now wearing the crowns of the three major national pageants. Miss North Carolina’s Cheslie Kryst completed the beauty pageant trifecta on Thursday when she was crowned the 2019 Miss USA, joining Miss Teen USA winner Kaliegh Garris and Miss America Nia Franklin. Garris was crowned Miss Teen USA in April and in September, Franklin became the first Miss America to win without wearing a swimsuit.
Democratic senator and 2020 presidential contender Kamala Harris wrote in an Instagram post on Saturday. “What a tremendous moment for these young, successful women making their own path, on their own terms. Truly amazing to see.”
