This year’s nominations for the Songwriters Hall of Fame have been announced and Missy Elliott is the first-ever female rapper to be nominated, after Jay-Z just last year became the first rapper ever inducted. Among the nominees are Mariah Carey, John Prine, the Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde, reggae legend Jimmy Cliff, ELO’s Jeff Lynne, and more.Missy has written for Aaliyah, Whitney Houston, Monica and was also behind the hit “Lady Marmalade” featuring Christina Aguilera, Pink, Lil Kim and Mya. Missy Elliott took to twitter to thank her fellow nominees.
