Searching for a job can be very frustrating. You have sent your Curriculum Vitae to almost every company that advertised or didn’t advertise a vacancy. You are already tired and want to give up. Don’t abdicate everything yet. You should try these unconventional job search tips to boost your opportunities of being employed:

job search

Do your research before you apply

You are browsing a website and you find a vacancy that suits you, you will want to apply for it immediately. You should tarry for awhile and do a bit of research about the company to ensure that the vacancy is not a hoax. Also, do not forget to read through the job specs to know if you are really qualified for the job.

Reach out to the decision makers

There is absolutely nothing wrong with contacting the CEO and top decision makers of your preferred business and requesting for a job. You need to get out of the rut of sending C.V. Today, you do not need to know them. They are on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Just send a tweet or direct message, you may be lucky. However, ensure that it doesn’t appear like you are stalking them.

Target specific companies you are interested in

Some companies do not announce vacancies. You can pay them a visit at their head office and request to see the hiring manager. They may allow you to see the manager. Know that before doing this, you must be interested in working for the company and also arm yourself with information about the company. It will enhance your chances of getting a job. Remember, you have to dress well and be polite.

You don’t have to do what you love

Most times you are encouraged to do what you love. It is not really applicable today. Fine, if you get a job that corresponds with your passion, you can do it. If you do not, you should think outside the box and apply for other jobs. There is what is called learning on the job.
