The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, under a proposal which he titled “Budget of Sustainable Self Reliance” presented a budget proposal of N209,875,330,488 for the 2017 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly.
The governor in his proposal budgeted N130,488,682.677 for capital expenditure and N79,370,647.811billion for recurrent expenditure. The following allocations were made in the proposal; Works and Housing Ministry got the lion share, receiving N43.72 billion, followed by Education with N17.5 billion, the water resources ministry received N13.5 billion.
Mr. Ganduje stated that, the allocation made to water resources is because there was need for improvement on water supply across the state.
N10 billion was allocated to the Health Ministry, Agricultural Development got N6.6 billion while the ministry of Land and Physical Planning received N16.8 billion.
Mr. Ganduje said the budget was planned to consolidate on the development efforts of his government and to make life more meaningful for the people of the state.
He also said the budget would be funded by an expected internally generated revenue of N143.7 billion and N99.990 billion expected federal allocations.
