21-year-old tennis star Naomi Osaka is on the cover of the latest issue of TIME magazine. The Japanese born right-hander shot fame after she beat tennis goddess, Serena Williams to win the 2018 Grand Slam title.
On the inside she talks about her journey so far, her match against Serena Williams, her aversion to attention and on achieving her dreams.
On facing her icon Serena Williams, she tells Time’s writer Gregory:
“Serena is Serena. I didn’t experience her life. I can’t tell her what she’s supposed to do, because there are things that she’s gone through. I have nothing against her or anything. I actually still really love her.”
She also talks about how surreal winning and achieving her dreams have been:
“In a perfect dream, things would be set exactly the way you would want but I think it’s more interesting that in real life, things aren’t exactly the way you planned. And there are certain situations that you don’t expect, but they come to you, and I think those situations set up things for further ahead.”
Osaka will open her Australian Open opportunity against world No. 80 Magda Linette on the 15 of January.
