Disney premiered the new Aladdin trailer at the Grammys, featuring the first look at Will Smith as “Genie.” Disney is giving Aladdin fans a first look at Will Smith’s Genie.
The animated classic trailer was unveiled on Sunday night during the Grammy Awards, also featuring looks at Jasmine and more scenes featuring Aladdin and Agrabah. Jafar can even be seen ushering Aladdin to the Cave of the Wonders.
Smith posted the trailer to his Instagram, writing, “I told y’all I was gon’ be Blue!!”
Mena Massoud stars in the live-action remake as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Will Smith as the Genie, and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar. The cast also includes Billy Magnussen and Nasim Pedrad.
Director Jon Favreau — who previously helmed another Disney remake, The Jungle Book, in 2016 — is behind the new Lion King, which broke records for views after its first teaser dropped on Thanksgiving Day. Stars including Donald Glover, Beyonce and James Earl Jones are voicing the film’s iconic animals.
Disney is also set to remake animated classics including Mulan, The Little Mermaid, Snow White and Pinocchio.
Aladdin hits theatres May 24, 2019.
