Nigerian fashion brand, Maki Oh returned to New York Fashion Week (NYFW) this season for the release of her AW 17 Collections.
The brand had a collaboration with OXOSI brand for its presentation. Lagos-based Maki Oh takes an idiosyncratic approach to making fashion.
Her sui generis way of fusing Nigerian and conventional western aesthetics gives her the edge of being one of the most interesting young designers to watch.
The back drop for her presentation gave a resemblance of our commercial (danfo) buses here in Lagos, Nigeria.
She topped up her presentation with slogans like “No condition is permanent” written across a blouse in the collection.
It was indeed refreshing to see her tell a story through the use of prints, colors, cuts out (nets and bandeau tops) and asymmetric silhouettes.
