The Executive Secretary to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Professor Ben Angwe, in a statement made available to news agencies declared that, the Port Harcourt Maximum Security Prison is the most congested in the country.
He stated that the Prison contains 3,430 “Awaiting Trial inmates.”
Mr. Angwe called out to the Federal Government and the State government of Rivers State to take immediate actions in order to decongest the prison.
He further made a remark on the increasing jail-break attempts. And stated that, decongesting the prison will help mitigate the level of jail-break attempts.
